Church of St. Angel
The RUPESTRIAN CHURCH OF ST. ANGEL represents a unicum in southern Italy for its development on two different hypogeal levels, with the lower part havinf funerary intended use (similar examples are present in Asia Minor). The church is part of one of the most important rupestrian villages in our territory in the Middle Ages, Casalrotto, built around the Benedectine monastery of St. Angel. Inside, the temple has three naves and three apses. There are two Deesis still visible in the upper church and in the lower church that indicate the strong reference to the funerary character of the church. In the lower crypt, as many as 7 pit graves have been found.
